Low-Level Laser Therapy
Modern science has given many magical powers in the hand of human beings. One of them is – LASER. Laser rays are similar to normal light except that these are highly focused. The techniques have been developed to conduct the earlier invasive surgeries though the Laser without the necessity of physical cuts on the patient body. For many years Low level laser therapy is available and its technology is non-invasive. Endre Mester from Hungary originated the first low-level therapeutic laser in 1960. It is beneficial in reducing inflammation, helps to quickly heal the wound and also to minimize severe long lasting pain. With this treatment wounds heal better. This technique is used in hair loss treatment, being based on the theory that laser light absorbs the chromospheres, and increases the circulation of the blood and also enhances the flow of oxygen which accelerates the growth of hair in bald-headed area.
This technique possibly can make the thin hair stronger by stimulating the hair follicle as it works at the cellular level. Scientifically it is yet to be proved.
The hair follicle when interacted with laser light produced photo chemical reaction and forms the process of hair growth. With the reaction the hair starts growing with the internal processing of cell. Hairs which have been reduced or miniaturized start responding to the treatment though areas which are completely bald don’t respond. The new hair growth is seen after 12 months
Works for everyone?
Baldness cause by genetic problem or by androgenic alopecia can get benefit from LLLT to both men and women. There are various evidences that LLLT works better in combination with finasteride (medication dose for men) and minoxidil (the medication for growth of hair)
The treatment of LLLT is effective on women as they have diffuse hair loss and have miniaturize hair than men. This treatment is less effective on bald areas as these areas are more prominently found in men. Continuance of treatment is necessary for the growth of hair. Such laser treatment does not give permanent solution.
What said the medicine about LLLT
Though clinical data of medication of finasteride and minoxidil are available in plenty but not as much data is available for Low-level laser therapy concerning with hair loss. Nonetheless this treatment is effective which are mentioned in many studies and reports but such studies were not skillfully managed and were not conducted for more than six months duration. Individuals have mentioned the effectiveness of treatment with LLLT and their experiences are recorded in many reports.
There isn’t any doubt that LLLT is ineffective but long term studies and in-depth analysis is need of the hour.
A medical journal in 2003 published its first report which looked into the matter of efficiency of LLLT device and analyze its hair loss therapy. To make the study successful thirty five patients who were identified with androgenic alopecia joined of which 7 were female and 28 were male; and for the six months they have to use the hand held device for five to ten minutes on alternate days.
When the observation was done after its use for six months it was found an increase in hair count in temple area at the rate of 74 percent in males and 55 percent in females. It increased 120 percent in male at the scalp’s crown or vertex area and for women it was only 65 percent. On an average there was increase of 94 percent of hair count for both the areas. Besides this there was gain in hair strength.
Before beginning with LLLT treatment either at your home or at doctor’s clinic diagnosis of physician is necessary to know the reason for hair loss. There are many more successful treatments available. LLLT can be combined with other treatments for more improved results. With the combination of various therapies benefits can be availed from different techniques and one treatment can benefit the other treatment.
