Genetic Female Hair Loss
When there comes to the problem of thinning of hair of women then the hereditary details of the patient can not go unnoticed as this problem is typically linked to the past history of the patient’s sister, mother, aunt or father. It has been surveyed that half of the women who are suffering from thinning of hair or balding, have some relatives also who are undergoing the same problem. This thing is conceivable that there is some chain link of this problem with the family hereditary also. However, when the women have this problem in their family then they are inquired about the balding patterns in their family. This is helpful in the seeing the genetic transfer of the problem.
It has been observed that balding is not very common among women rather it is more common in men. Balding in women is termed as female hair loss or female androgenetic alopecia. Moreover, hair loss pattern is also different in women as compared to men.The androgenetic menopausal hair loss causes loss of hair around the normal hair-line of women. All those women who are suffering from this disease have thin hair which ultimately leads to balding afterwards. Although this hair loss process is slow yet it results in the complete loss of hair. So if any woman starts observing the thinning of hair then she should immediately take concern about it because this thinning of hair is going to produce drastic results in the near offing.
Genetic Trigger
What are the causes of hair loss in women? As a matter of fact, there are many reasons for it. One reason is the increase of male sex hormones like DHT in women which result in the decrease of hair in them. However, this reason is not pivotal among many women. The hair loss among men is still enigma as it does not necessarily cause due to decrease in DHT among men. It has been found that enzyme aromatase is the one which is imperative while discussing the female hair-loss. Moreover, the decrease in estrogen among women also causes thinning of hair.
The factors contributing to the hair thinning in the elderly women are less related to any hereditary link rather they have close association with the hormone imbalance later if life among women. In fact, the decrease in hormones is obviously the major consequence of post menopause. There is various hair thinning classification for men. Similarly there is also a hair thinning classification for women also. Common classification that is used to decrease hair thickness among women is Ludwig classification. There are three types of this classification.
- Ludwig type I is not a severe condition and the women suffering from this type do not suffer serious hair loss rather this type causes a very mild thinning of hair.
- Ludwig type II is a serious type causing hair to be thin very quickly.
- The most harsh hair thinning is caused by the Ludwig type III and all those patients suffering from this type experience balding very rapidly.
Keep in mind that balding pattern among women is very different from that of men. This third type is better to be placed under Norwood classification because women suffering from this classification experience hair loss from the top of the scalp. In fact, all those patients suffering from this type always aspire to go for hair transplant surgery. It has been observed that only 15% of women suffer from the third type!
